IC4 COM TROUBLE SHOOTING

Issue:   "Hardware not responding” or the application software does not appear to receive any data?
  1. Device connected properly? Please check all cable connections
  2. Software driver installed? Using the Control Panel, access the Add/Remove Program icon.  See if IC3 or IC4 is available as a program in the list. If no please install using the enclosed CD-ROM or floppy disk that came with the kit.
  3. Did you select IC3 or IC4 as the connection device with the application software?  Select the “International EZ-Tech IC3 COM” for IC3 COM or "IC4 Interface Device" for IC4 USB and IC4 COM as the connection selection in the application software and select the proper COM or USB port. Please consult with the application software manufacturer for more information.
  4. Proper voltage is available for powering up the IC3 or IC4 device? If none of the indicators illuminate please check VBAT on the vehicle diagnostic connector. The voltage should be at least 9 Volts for proper operation.
  5. Is the vehicle's data link operating properly? Please consult with vehicle manufacturer for proper diagnosis on data link functionality.

Issue:   After installing the IC4 USB driver CD, the IC4 USB isn't being recognized.

The IC4 USB installation utilizes a USB driver from Prolific.  Prolific's USB driver will attempt to assign a "serial COM port" for the IC4 USB.  Prolific driver assign the smallest "serial COM" port number that is NOT in use.  On occassion Windows may not mark a com port that is in-use and thus Prolific driver would attempt to assign it as the com port.  This is a conflict as two drivers both want to access the same port.
  1. Get to the Device Manager (two methods to access)
    1. Access via System in the Control Panel.  Device Manager is located under the Hardware tab.
    2. Access via My Computer on the desktop.  Right click to bring up "pop menu" while hovering over My Computer and select "Manage".  Device Manager is a tool located under the System Tools icon.
  2. Plug in IC4 USB cable and observe the assigned COM port
    1. The assigned COM port for the IC4 USB is an item located under the Ports (COM & LPT) icon.  It should be listed as:
      Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COMx)
where x is the COM port number.
  3. Change the assigned Prolific COM port number to a different not "in-use" port.
    1. Double click on the Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COMx) icon, or right click on it and select Properties.
    2. Select Port Settings tab and click the Advanced... button.
    3. The assigned COM port is shown in the drop down list box.  Click on the drop down list to show all possible COM Port numbers.  Select a different COM port that is not in use.
  4. Unplug the IC4 USB cable and Reboot computer.
  5. Re-try the IC4 USB cable with application.  If fault continues, try another COM port following the instructions above.
